“Best Kept Secret” Brownies!

In honor of National Brownie Day … here is another of my most requested recipes! So rich and delicious! Remember to use quality chocolate for a quality brownie. Enjoy!

ps. You will find out the secret ingredient when you read the recipe below.

pss. I did a demo of this recipe at our local McMinnville Public Market and it was a hit with crowd- both gluten free and gluten eaters alike! No one could guess what the secret ingredient was that adds such amazing texture.

“Best Kept Secret” Brownies

1 15 oz. can gluten-free black beans, no salt added*

1/3 cup melted butter

3 large local farm eggs

1/3 cup gluten-free cocoa powder

3/4 cup gluten-free cane sugar (also try Coconut Nectar Crystals for a low glycemic sweetener)

1/8 tsp. sea salt or REAL salt

2 tsp. gluten-free vanilla

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, gluten-free

1/3 cup finely chopped walnuts, gluten-free** (optional)

*if you only have salt added black beans, just omit the salt in the recipe.

**bulk food sections are at risk for cross-contamination. Be sure the label says gluten-free.


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place rack in center of oven. Butter an 8″ by 8″ square baking dish. Rinse and drain black beans. Place black beans, butter, eggs, cocoa powder, cane sugar, salt and vanilla in food processor and blend until smooth. For a lighter texture blend the batter longer and for a dense texture blend less- your choice! Now, remove the blade and stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Pour into prepared pan. Bake the brownies for 30 – 35 minutes or until they are just set in the center. Cool slightly before cutting.

Makes about 16 squares.
